Life and Education of Ramon Rodriguez-Torres MD

Born

Ramon Rodriguez-Torres is the first born son of Clara and Narcisso Rodiguez.  He was born in Havana, Cuba and had one younger brother: Rolando Rodriguez.  

Childhood 

Ramon Rodriguez-Torres grew up in Guanajay just outside of Havana, Cuba.  Born into a very modest family, he was very studious and helped his family monetarily by selling his notes and making photocopies.  

Migration to USA 

Dr. Rodriguez-Torres migrated to the United States from Cuba on October 16th 1959.  He departed his beloved Cuba to escape the communist regime established by Fidel Castro. 

Studies 

From the moment he was a child, he knew he wanted to be a physician.  For as long as he could remember he had a strong desire to help human beings.  

Areas of Research

Dr. Rodriguez-Torres is widely published in the areas of infectious disease, Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatrics.  

Marriage & Family 

Ramon and Guly Rodriguez-Torres were married on September 11th 1956 in Havana, Cuba and were married until Guly's passing January 21st 2021.  Ramon & Guly had four children. (Carmen (deceased), Raul- Married to Lisa, Rafael- Married to Kim and Raymond- Married to Shannah)  They have Four  grandchildren (Alex, Randy, Christian, Bella (deceased) and Rayna. They additionally have six great grandchildren (Julia, Jasmine, Olivia ,Sophia, Lucas & Braxton) 

Academic Appointments 

Dr. Rodriguez-Torres served as director of Pediatric Cardiology at State University of New York, Medical College of Ohio, and Chief of Medical staff at Miami Children's Hospital now known as Nicklaus Children's Hospital.   Dr. Rodriguez-Torres is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology.   He is additionally a licensed OUPV Captain by the US Coast Guard.

Early Career 

Ramon began his studies and medical training at the University of Havana.  He later won a scholarship in Cardiology to attend the University of Manchester in England under the direction of the highly esteemed Dr. Paul Wood.
